Prevalence of scabies among secondary school students in Anambra State, Nigeria

Scabies has been listed as one of the Neglected Tropical Diseases. Therefore, this study aimed at estimating prevalence among Secondary School Students in Anambra State, Nigeria. A survey infection was conducted fifty (50) randomly selected secondary schools three geographical zones well-structured questionnaire employed to elucidate information on age, sex and also knowledge, attitude perception (KAP). Focus group discussions, direct clinical observations microscopic examinations using skin scraping test method for confirmation scabies infestation were employed. Data analysis done a statistical package social sciences (SPSS) version 23 Microsoft Excel 16. Out five thousand (5000) students examined 500 (10.0%) identified positive from research works, sex-specific prevalent rate showed that 209 out 3000 females (6.97%) while 291 2000 males (14.55%) positive. The age-specific age groups 10 12 years had highest (29.0%) 9.6% both male female respectively. infectivity urban rural more prone infections (14.12%) than their counterparts (5.88%) difference statistically significant. result helped identify some with state Nigeria appropriate treatment, prevention control measures curb menace infestation.
